How to feel your best in front of the camera

Updated: Apr 24

The last thing you want to feel when going for a photoshoot is awkward or nervous, yet this is the main reason why so many people avoid having professional photos taken. It’s a photographer's most important job to make everyone feel comfortable and confident in front of the camera on the day as this will lead to the best photos. However, there is a lot that can be done in the days leading up to your photoshoot that can help with any anxiety. The more prep work you can do beforehand, the calmer you will feel on the day! So, here are some of the best tips for looking and feeling great in your photos:

  1. Plan your outfit in advance

Planning what you want to wear before the day can ease a lot of stress. It’ll mean that you have to panic buy a new outfit on the day of your photoshoot! Instead, you’ll have plenty of time to find an outfit that you can’t wait to show off in front of the camera!

  1. Hair & makeup

Looking good means feeling good- so don’t be afraid to treat yourself to a pamper before your photoshoot to get your skin glowing and your hair flowing.

  1. Ask the expert

Not sure what colour scheme would look best for your photos? Or what to bring with you on the day? Well, ask away! Your photographer has the answers… so ask away! It’s what we’re here for after all!

  1. Have plenty of time

Don’t leave getting ready to the last minute. Make sure you plan your day ahead so you have more than enough time to get glam- you don’t want to feel rushed.

  1. Do something to relax

If you are feeling anxious on the day of your photoshoot, it may be a good idea to do something calming that you enjoy. Whether it be going for a walk, listening to music, or talking to friends, taking your mind off the photoshoot may help to calm any nerves.

  1. Practice makes perfect

Practicing how you will smile, how you will pose, or even what you might think about to help you relax can help you feel more comfortable and prepared for your photoshoot.
