How to capture magical memories with your dog

Updated: Feb 16, 2023

Do you have a fur baby? If so, you know that they are a part of the family. They provide us with companionship and love, and we often want to capture memories of them through photographs. Taking great pet photos can be tricky, especially if they are little wrigglers! With these top tips, you’ll be able to take amazing pictures of your furry friend in no time!

If you’re photographing your dog that doesn’t like to sit still, try using some treats to get their attention or their favourite toy. Once you have their attention, click away!

It’s best to tire them out first, take them on a long walk or have some playtime together. A tired dog will be much more likely to keep still so that you can capture them at their best.

Get close to your pet and go down to their level, use a wide-angle lens if possible – this will help you to include as much of them in the frame as possible. This is especially good if you’re feeling adventurous and want to try taking some action shots. If you’re using your mobile phone then select the burst option to capture as many pictures as possible. Action shots are difficult and the chances of a perfect picture will be down to pure luck, but anticipating where the dog is going and aiming the lense in that direction will give you a fighting chance!

It’s important that you stay relaxed when trying to take the photos. Dog’s easily pick up on stress, a happy owner equals a happy dog!

Remember not to take it too seriously, be patient, have fun and enjoy spending time with your pet. After all, that’s what pet photography is all about, making memories!

If you want to create great memories with your pooch, why not bring them along to our next doggy event? Having a dog of my own, Denzel, I totally understand how much it means getting nice pictures of them, they are part of the family after all!

We have been running our doggy sessions for a while now, and it’s surprising how much we learn about a dog’s personality when they come along for their shoot. It’s such a fun day to be part of and we hope to capture their true character. Our next doggy event is on 28th May 10-3. You can book your session here.

We look forward to seeing you and your fur baby at our next event!
